Republicans are banning shit like books, dressing in drag, and the accurate teaching of history. Leftists are up in arms, as they should be. But leftists need to focus less on the what and more on the why.
Because while Republicans are doing shit that only appeals to the fringiest fringe, Democrats can only get weaksauce through. The left wants to defund the police and build public housing. Democrats are increasing police pay and banning new affordable housing.
What the hell is wrong with the Democrats?
As it turns out, it’s harder to get shit done when you’d rather shit on your own teammates than work together to accomplish anything.
Case in point: I just launched a Huntsville chapter of the New Democrats. And I posted about our first happy hour in the Huntsville subreddit. People lost their minds. It was so much shitting on centrist Democrats for not being X, Y, or Z enough.
Listen, you stupid motherfuckers. Do you think you’re telling me anything I don’t already know? Do you not think that I, too, want to burn the fucking system to the ground?
The system is fucked. The status quo is unacceptable. What are you going to do about it? What are you doing other than shoring up your ego by feeling superior?
Because a lot of people want to run purity tests and crap on everyone who’s actually doing anything for doing it “wrong.” And by a lot of people, I mean mainly leftists.
We need to face facts. The average conservative is wayyy better than the average progressive at getting shit done. And how do they accomplish this? They actually talk to people they disagree with. They work with people where they agree even if they don’t agree on everything. Even research shows that Republicans tend to value traits like ambition, work ethic, focus, and efficiency more than Democrats, who value communal traits more. Republicans like people who get shit done. Democrats like people who are part of the team.
They’re willing to sacrifice some purity, get out from behind their keyboards, and do some work to actually make the world a worse place.
Imagine what the world would look like if the people who wanted it to be better were willing to do anything other than whine and be mean to strangers on the internet to get it done.
