I think what has happened with sex education (and charter schools to public education) is criminal. The recent story out of Tennessee about teens forming their own independent sex education group shows a self awareness I applaud and support.
What I know about racism as a white male growing up before desegregation is of the fear and prejudice I saw from grandparents, neighbors, and peers. What I know about LGBT and trans folk is from personal relationships with friends and relatives who identify as such. None of this knowledge is complete as it is from a place privilege but it allows for some empathy and understanding.
