And I don't get all these people saying that Chris Wallace should have done a better job of handling Trump. Biden is running for President, but he needs Chris Wallace to protect him? God help us all.
It makes you wonder if it'll ever be possible to get back to a unified polity again. Perhaps the only paths forward are national authoritarianism or devolution. At some point the winner-takes-all concept of national government becomes de-facto domination and repression of half the country when you have sides that are so far apart culturally (politically the parties, as you write, have little daylight between them.)
