Men and women have worked shoulder to shoulder for millennia. It’s only within the last hundred or so years that the functionality of women in the family/ societal space has been designated to: look pretty, do nothing. As a matter of fact, be so useless that you don’t even reproduce! Just be a perpetual vacuum: consuming what you can, giving everything you don’t even have because all meaning has been ripped from your sexuality (as in: contraception!) It’s fair game to some man’s perverted whims! I mean, Maybe some Porn or gossiping in between. Ugh! Just read the autobiography of Laura ingals
Wilder and you’ll see what I mean. No. Really. READ IT!!! Actually read something real about someone (a successful woman!!) who existed!!! Sure, women had their so called “Status” in society. Maybe they didn’t vote. I’m thankful for that privilege now and to the women and men who fought for that. But women still had an identity a hundred years ago. They didn’t have to grapple with “why am I here as a woman?” (Men ask that question now too, poor things!)They knew their role in this world. They knew what they were about. And they could handle the men folk too! There was a beauty and a dignity to femininity that is completely lacking today. Men can’t and won’t respect a woman if she behaves like a man, competes like a man. And men can’t be men unless there’s women and vice verse. It’s an eternal ping pong match that our shitty post modern society has sought to handicap by making it “easier” on women when, in fact, it has thrown everything off balance. Men and women are naturally compatible. Always have been. Always will be. God made it so! It was so good when He created us, He even rested in the seventh day! You can take that to the grave.
I like the point about the speed of macroeconomics vs the speed of norms. It all ties back to my crank theory that all our problems stem from women and the work they're supposed to do were excluded from the development of modern markets.
I think the last bit is really important. I wrote my own piece on this (https://tinyurl.com/5n6fz53x) and we're in the weird position where women are having fewer babies than they want. I think a big factor is that we've taken the traditional "male" career path -- finish college, get a job, build your career, have kids that someone else looks after -- and made it standard even though it's not compatible with female physiology or with modern duty-sharing. We need to be thinking more of alternate career paths where people can have kids in their 20's and then build their careers, where gaps for having kids is not a resume-killer.
And the only reason this career path worked for men is because it was assumed women would be doing all the home labor for free to make it possible. We took some norms that worked out for a brief period post WWII and have sort of assumed they are the natural way of things.

Totally agree.
