I regret to inform you that I am still very much on my “growing/shrinking America explains everything” bullshit. In my reading, I’ve come across some choice factoids which I’ve added to my Fuck rural America? post. Give it a re-read, if you’re into that kind of thing.
One thing I like about the growing/shrinking America discourse is that it combines a bunch of things that are interesting to me. This includes, but is not limited to: racism, misogyny, Evangelical Christianity, class, economic growth, and land use regulation.
But today I want to zoom in on what I learned about rural voting patterns while reading a few articles in the Daily Yonder. One article is by Jeffery H. Bloodworth. Another is co-authored by Tom Schaller and Paul Waldman, who also wrote White Rural Rage.
