What is the point of men?

I recently asked y’all whether masculinity has any purpose that doesn’t ultimately rest on reifying a gender hierarchy. 

Long-time my baby Nicholas Weininger speculated that masculinity exists, at least in part, “to reassure men that we are necessary.” 

Maybe masculinity is an overcorrection to male anxiety.

I’m stuck on this concept of dependence.
