Marriage rates are declining in the US (and other developed economies).
Assuming this is a problem that needs fixing, it might help to understand the root causes.
Conservatives blame their favorite boogeymen: “Hollywood,” “liberals,” “luxury beliefs,” “the gays,” and “the media.”
That’s all patently absurd. They are, however, at least partially correct when they blame feminists.
They’re just very wrong about how. The difference between the conservative story and the truth is very interesting.
Many feminists do openly advocate for abolishing marriage, along with the entire concept of the nuclear family. We do say that marriage is dangerous and oppressive for women. A feminist did once say “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” We’re also occasionally wrong about stuff.
In the course of doing a lot more reading on the topic than is normal or healthy I’ve learned that conservatives are, for once, being far too generous to feminists.
