On the recommendation of therapist I started reading the Internal Family Systems Bible: No Bad Parts. 

This quote from the foreword really got me thinking: “What had felt daunting to me my whole life–going within to take responsibility for or inquire about my urges, compulsions, triggers, and reactions–slowly became somewhat exciting.”

Remember The Pirate? He’s one of the two men I was dating when I moved from D.C. to San Francisco in February 2017. He’s the one I didn’t live with. We dated for a long time before I moved to SF, and for I guess about a year after?

He was in therapy, I would say, most of the time we were together. And it seemed to really help him. I remember thinking at the time, “What if you’d had these realizations and broken these patterns ten years ago, when you were my age?”
