Racism and sexism, status games, and affirmative action

I had a thought while reading Hannah Nikole Jones’s recent essay about affirmative action. Perhaps the political and ideological realignment which can be said to have begun in 2016 and continues to this day is creating an opportunity to rethink the kinds of games we want to play as a society.
