At some point, “Learn to code” became shorthand for liberal, coastal, high-skill, high-education, upwardly mobile elites condescending to and victim-blaming poor, sick, low-skill, low-education rural rubes fucked over by trade agreements, immigration, outsourcing, and the transition from an economy that gave them temporary succor after WWII to an economy in which they would never again be particularly valuable.
I might be wrong. It’s happened. But that’s what I understood.
