Immigration is probably the most important issue for me and it's why, above all the other shit, this administration and particularly Miller makes my blood boil.

The entire global construct of preventing migration is really new and people act like it's some ancient enduring god imbued principle that humans shouldn't cross imaginary lines. Like literally this whole thing was born during WWI for "security" and like most shit in the name of security was never rolled back. And then administrative momentum + nationalism just engrained it in modern society worldwide. I mean, we have a lot of really cool new things that happened in the last 100 years so yeah I'm not saying new= bad but geesh we are literally killing each other over this stupidity.

And then there is all of the hypocrisy of "you can either love America or you can leave" and it's like F yeah I'd love to leave this hell hole but global conservatives have made that literally impossible. Because when it comes to outsiders, it's "no you need to stay and fight for your own country to get better". So which is it?

I just can't get over the idea that people think that being born on the right side of an imaginary line gives you the privilege of deciding where people can or cannot live or find employment.

The Israelites emigrated to Egypt during the reign of a foreign Pharoh. They flourished in a multi-cultural society. Then a nationalist movement came to power, insisting that Egypt was for Egyptians. The second of their two Pharaohs "did not know Joseph" and consolidated power by creating fear. He stated the foreigners would join with their enemies in the event of a war, and promised economic prosperity by using them as slave labor.

A tale, that is, as old as time. It's an entirely made-up issue, but a perfect fit for a populist. It maps onto every prejudice and hatred and ignites the emotions, turning off the brain. And once you get the people scared of it, they'll excuse just about anything.
